Meteorology

This course provides students an opportunity to earn an elective Science credit and builds upon general concepts of Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics.  The course provides students with a broad overview of the variables of the atmosphere that drive common weather patterns in order to be able to answer the driving question “What is going on with this weather?”  Students will study the dynamics and behavior of Earth’s atmosphere including: structure and composition, energy transfer, humidity, air pressure and wind, storm systems, weather patterns, and weather forecasting.  Students will be analyzing real-time data, images, and using tools provided to complete activities on the AMS Online Weather Studies website.

1 semester Science elective credit

Requirements

Students must have access to an iPad (or comparable device) with basic apps including word processing, BlueFire reading app(available in app portal) and AMS access codes..  In addition, students are strongly encouraged to have access to a PC with high-speed internet access in order to complete online activities that require students to view images, graphs, etc.

Special Note: There is a course fee to take this course.

Final Exam
No formal Final Exam.  Completion of a mini-research activity involving a historical, noteworthy U.S. weather event is required.
