Biology I is a 2-credit intensive summer course designed for students seeking initial credit. Students will be able to understand how biology applies to the world around them, and how it is changing around the globe.The content is based on the following core topics: Cellular chemistry, structure and reproduction; matter cycles and energy transfer; interdependence of organisms; molecular basis of heredity; genetics and evolution. Instruction should focus on developing student understanding that scientific knowledge is gained from observation of natural phenomena and experimentation by designing and conducting investigations guided by theory and by evaluating and communicating the results of those investigations according to accepted procedures.
**Because of the intensive nature of this course, students should expect to spend 2-4 hours per day on coursework.
Diploma
Fulfills the life science requirement for the General diploma. Fulfills Biology credit for Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas.
Requirements
Students must have access to a computer with high-speed internet access. All readings and instructional materials will be provided by the instructor.
